My Milkshake – San Jose, CA

151 S 2nd St #199

San Jose, CA 95113

Rating: ★★★★☆

Located in downtown San Jose, My Milkshake serves up a variety of tasty milkshakes customized to order. There was no wait as we arrived near closing time. Unfortunately, that also meant they stopped serving fries, which was a bummer. With that said, instead of trying to figure out what type of customized shake to select, we opted for two of the preset awesome shakes. We ordered the MM Hulk and SpiderMMan shakes. The MM Hulk had a nice minty flavor from the Andes mints and a great texture from the crunchy Oreo bits. The SpiderMMan shake had some tasty Kit Kat bits along with a delicious hazelnut flavor from the Ferrero Rocher. Both shakes tasted delicious, but both were not very creamy. I think the shakes would have tasted better if there was less milk or if the shake was blended less. Overall, My Milkshake did serve up tasty milkshakes, but the prices tended to be a little on the high side. The higher prices are warranted due to the great taste and available selection of flavors and add-ins. If you are looking for dessert in the downtown San Jose area, then head over for a milkshake!

Fogo de ChĆ£o Brazilian Steakhouse – San Jose, CA

377 Santana Row #1090

San Jose, CA 95128

Rating: ★★★★★

Located in busy Santana Row, Fogo de Chao serves up a variety of tasty meats as a Brazilian Steakhouse. As this was our first foray in this format of dining, we were extremely excited. We made reservations the day before just in case they were busy. We opted to visit for lunch instead of dinner because you get the same type of food for a better price. When we arrived, the hostess quickly led us to our table where servers took our drink order and explained how the dining experience worked. We were also instructed that there was a market salad bar area where we can also grab food that was not being passed around.

We started our meal by visiting the market salad bar area where we got essentials such as rice and broccoli as well as some tasty smoked salmon and sliced meats. There were plenty of other food items and salads, but we wanted to focus on the meat that would be served. When we got back to the table, we flipped the specially marked coasters to green to instruct food servers to stop by our table to provide us with meat. We had various cuts of steak, pork, chicken, and lamb come by throughout the meal service. We had to flip the coasters back to red to prevent us from getting too much food. It was a genuinely fun experience to have people come by with a large skewers of meat carved onto your plate. Out of all the meats, the steak cuts were the best, especially the juicy garlic steak. Some bacon wrapped meats like the bacon wrapped sirloin and bacon wrapped chicken were juicy and tasted OK too, but the straight cuts of meat were tastier. The pork items varied in taste, but they were overshadowed by the beef. The lamb was also tender and gamey. During the meal, we also tried the Brazilian lemonade, which utilized lime and condensed milk, which was different and refreshing. At the beginning of the meal, servers did bring some side dishes that included mashed potatoes, polenta, candied bananas, and cheese-infused rolls, but we didn’t try them until the end of the meal to prevent us from getting prematurely full. The sides did taste good, but out of all of them, I really enjoyed the cheese bread. Since we came for a birthday, we were also able to select a free dessert, so we chose a chocolate mousse cake, which was decadent, moist, and delicious.

Overall, Fogo serves up delicious cuts of meat with amazing service. Meat servers rotated around frequently and were very nice. Other servers checked on us frequently and refilled our waters. We liked the large variety of items on the market salad bar area, and really appreciated the availability of white rice. If you want to eat somewhere nice, but also wanted lots of delicious food, then Fogo would be a great place to go as it was worth every penny.

Well Season Seafood Restaurant

9089 Bruceville Rd

Elk Grove, CA 95758

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located at the former site of Hometown Buffet in Elk Grove, Well Season Seafood Restaurant brings large-scale dim sum to the Elk Grove community. When we arrived in the parking lot, we noticed the restaurant seemed very busy and there were few available parking spaces. When we entered the restaurant, most of the tables seemed occupied, so a hostess provided us with a ticket while they looked for an available table. After only 2 minutes or so, we were taken to an available table. Servers took our usual tea order and we were ready to order.

Today, we decided to try the har gow, sui mai, steamed sticky rice chicken, xiao long bao, pork turnovers, BBQ pork steamed rice rolls, and egg tarts. All of the food we received was fresh, and there were plenty of food carts being pushed around by staff. The har gow tasted OK as a large chunk of shrimp, but was a bit bland. The sui mai was also quote meaty, but bland. The steamed sticky rice chicken was flavorful and came with a good amount of fillings. The xiao long bao tasted OK, but there was not much of any soup inside. The pork turnovers did not have much filling, but the outsides were crispy. The BBQ pork steamed rice rolls tasted fresh, and tasted great with the cilantro inside. The egg tarts had a peculiar taste to them, but the crust was flaky.

Overall, the dim sum here is plentiful, but the tastes can be quite bland. Service was pretty good, and meal service was quick. Prices are a bit high, especially for medium and large-sized items. We did request for a fried shrimp ball order, but it did not arrive until we were already full. If you live in Elk Grove, then Well Season would be a convenient dim sum location, but if you do not live in that area, you are better off heading to Stockton Boulevard.

Pineapple Express – New York, NY

425 W 15th St

New York, NY 10011

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

When you hear of a shop that creates pineapple soft serve and serves it as a float, I figured you need to give it a try to see if it does any justice with Disney’s Dole Whip float. Located inside Chelsea Market, we decided to give Pineapple Express’s pineapple float a try. The juice at the bottom of the float actually tasted carbonated and was not as sweet as Dole pineapple juice. The soft serve itself was not creamy, rather, it tasted more icy. The best part of the entire float was the sweet slice of pineapple on the side of the cup. Overall, I do not recommend this soft serve float as it does not even come close to the deliciousness of the Dole Whip float at Disneyland.

Magnum – New York, NY

875 Washington St

New York, NY 10014

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Located near the Chelsea Market, Magnum has created a storefront to allow customers to top their Magnum bar with an array of toppings for $8. Today, I tried my best to make my Magnum creation delicious by having the bar dipped in milk chocolate then topped with cookie crumbles, hazelnut, white chocolate crispies, caramel popcorn, and drizzled in milk chocolate. The bar tasted delicious due to the freshly dipped milk chocolate, and most of the toppings contributed to the tastiness, but the popcorn didn’t really help. Overall, the idea is cool, but the staff could be nicer and more welcoming when selecting toppings. At $8 a bar, this was definitely a splurge for a one-time event. I don’t see myself coming back here, but the experience was nice.
