Pita Pit

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Located in a busy shopping center off of 65th Expressway, Pita Pit serves up a large variety of pita bread options to the masses. As you enter the restaurant, you proceed to the register where you place your order and pay. The various pita options are listed on the wall behind the counter. After careful review of the menu, I decided on the Club with a wheat pita. The meat is cooked on a flat top after you order so it arrives fresh. You will actually need to wait until you are called up when the meat is almost ready to customize your pita. When I was called up, I decided to add provolone cheese, romaine lettuce, carrots, and corn. After all my additions were put in the pita, I still had to wait for the meat to finish up. Once the meat was ready, it was placed in my pita pocket and rolled up. The whole ordering and preparation process took around 20 minutes, which was a bit lengthy. When I finally got back to work, I was able to try out the pita. The pita itself tasted healthy, but the meat was very salty. The garlic sauce didn’t help as it added additional saltiness. The vegetables added a clean flavor to the salty meat, but the carrots were a bit hard.

Overall, Pita Pit was a disappointment with the slow prep time and overly salty flavor. Coming in close to $10 for a pita does not help either. Given a choice, I would feel better eating at Subway instead of Pita Pit. If you want to try something different with lots of menu choices, then Pita Pit may be OK for you, but I do not like the price or quality of what I received.

Kinder’s Meats Deli BBQ & Catering – Hercules, CA

3600 San Pablo Ave

Hercules, CA 94547

Rating: ★★★★½

Located in an extremely busy strip mall in Hercules, Kinder’s Meats Deli BBQ serves up delicious BBQ to lots of people. As you enter the restaurant, plenty of menu boards are posted with multiple options. I noticed an option for a filet mignon sandwich on the daily specials, so I did not look at the full menu. Plenty of other sides are available in the cold case and hot case including potato salad, baked potato, and mac & cheese. After placing my order, the order taker becomes the sandwich maker and works on my sandwich. After the sandwich was complete, she became my cashier. During this whole time, a large operation of staff continues to help the next customer while going through the entire ordering process.

Finding seating outside, I began to enjoy my sandwich. The fresh sourdough bread contained the lettuce, sauce, and filet mignon. Each bite of the sandwich did cause the meat to shift on the bread, which caused the meat to overhang and parts of the sandwich left meatless. The beef was tender and the accompanying sauce was delicious with sweet notes. There was just enough meat to complete the sandwich.

Overall, Kinder’s serves up delicious BBQ at reasonable prices. Their BBQ sauce tastes delicious with their meats. Service was great and their workflow impressive. If I was in the mood for BBQ again in the area, I would definitely give Kinder’s a try again.

Hibachi Grill Sushi Supreme Buffet

7517 Watt Ave

North Highlands, CA 95660

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Located in a large shopping plaza with a Food Source, Hibachi Grill Sushi Supreme Buffet serves up rows and rows of Asian cuisine in a large dining room. As you enter the restaurant, you find the pricing list on the podium where you wait for an available hostess to seat you. At $12.99 per adult for dinner, the buffet is a great deal. Soon, we were quickly seated at a table near the buffet tables. After placing our order for water, we ventured across the many food choices.

With such a large selection, I am unable to list everything available. However, some of the tastiest food would be the hibachi chicken, hibachi beef, Thailand chicken, and steamed fish. Most of the other food was just OK. There was usually plenty of food available except for the crab legs and crayfish. Service is mediocre and we had to ask for water refills. For the price, I cannot really complain, but I did wish the food tasted better. If you want some Asian food but don’t know what to eat, you might find something to eat here for a great price.

Blaze Pizza

2137 Golden Centre Ln

Gold River, CA 95670

Rating: ★★★★☆

Located in a busy Bel Air shopping plaza in Gold River, Blaze Pizza serves up custom thin-crust pizzas with whatever toppings you like with multiple cheese and sauce options. As you enter the restaurant, you will see a menu board with various signature creations and the options to build your own. Staff customize your pizza to your liking.

Today, I decided to go and create my own pizza with red sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese. I then topped my pizza with all of their meat choices including bacon, meatballs, grilled chicken, Italian sausage, pepperoni, salami, ham, and turkey meatballs. Feeling bad, I added chopped garlic, basil, and spinach before sending the pizza to the oven. After paying, you are sent to wait for your pizza. When you pick up your pizza, you get the option to add pesto sauce, BBQ sauce, and arugula, so I opted for the pesto sauce and arugula. The pizza did not hold together so well in the center because of the weight of toppings. The mass of meat kind of jumbled together, so I could not really distinguish the flavors between the meats that well. The arugula definitely made the pizza seem and taste healthier.

Overall, the pizza came together well and tasted delicious. I like how you can just go through the toppings and pick all for the same price. I still prefer Pieology in comparison to Blaze because the toppings are more flavorful and ingredients more in stock. Today, I wanted to add zucchini, but they ran out. If you are looking for some tasty custom pizza at a reasonable price, then Blaze Pizza will do the trick.

Long Beach Burger Bar – Long Beach, CA

4100 Donald Douglas Dr

Long Beach, CA 90808

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located in the main JetBlue terminal at the Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Burger Bar serves up delicious burgers to an abundant amount of travelers. Among a stretch of other restaurants, the Burger Bar takes your order as you approach the counter as staff continues cooking on the flat top behind them.

The menu is simple, so I decided to order the cheeseburger with a side of fries and drink. The burger arrived on a soft toasted bun with well done patty. The sauce in the burger was flavorful and resembled the secret sauce from In-N-Out. The burger itself was tasty, but did not scream out amazing. The cheese was melted and went well with the burger. I liked the amount of fries provided as it filled the entire tray. All of the fries were fresh and delicious.

Overall, Long Beach Burger Bar serves up a decent burger with a lot of fries, but the burger was quite overpriced for what you get as expected inside an airport terminal. Although the burger was pricey, the burger was of good quality. If I were to fly out of this terminal hungry again, I would most likely still visit this establishment. If you have time to eat before you fly, then the Burger Bar will be a good choice.
