Crepeville

1730 L St
Sacramento, CA 95814

Rating: ★★★★☆

Today, we decided to try out Crepeville in midtown. There was plenty of street parking available. Upon entering, we were able to look at the various menu items available on the chalkboards around the restaurant. An A-frame menu of items from Burgers and Brews was also available. When ready, you would order at the register and a number would be provided to you to put at your table. There were quite a few people in the restaurant so there were only a few tables available.

Today, I ordered the Denver Crepe with additional Italian sausage. Water was self-serve near the registers. The crepe came fresh with a side of breakfast potatoes. Upon cutting into the crepe, you can see adequate amounts of cheese, egg, Italian sausage, and ham. I opted to order the Denver without the onions and bell peppers. There was a great balance between savory and hearty in the crepe. The potatoes were fresh and seasoned well.

Overall, Crepeville served up a tasty fulfilling breakfast crepe that arrived fresh. With so many choices to choose from, it was harder to choose what to order, and you are even able to design your own crepe. Prices are decent, but are a little high for the volume of food received. If you wanted to eat something different, then Crepeville will serve that up for you.

Tank House BBQ and Bar

1925 J St
Sacramento, CA 95811

Rating: ★★★★½

In search for something different, we decided to try out Tank House in midtown. Upon entering the restaurant, the menus were posted on a couple walls with various meat options as well as sandwiches and sides. There was not much seating inside the restaurant, and the restaurant was fairly busy. Signs direct you to order at the bar when ready.

We decided to order the half chicken with a side of dirty tots as well as the brisket sandwich with dirty tots. The half chicken was a bit small with just two pieces and was quite blackened, but tasted pretty good especially with the sweet barbeque sauce. The chicken was tender and did not taste burnt at all. The brisket sandwich tasted delicious and came with just the right amount of meat. The brisket itself was tender and flavorful. There was a good amount of cheese in the sandwich, which went well with the brisket. The dirty tots were amazing with the pulled pork and cheese all over them. The pulled pork was tangy and tender. The combination of pork, cheese, and tater tots just melts in your mouth.

Overall, Tank House serves up delicious smokehouse meats including amazing brisket. Prices were fairly reasonable for all of their items. The restaurant became extremely busy in a short period of time, making it hard for people to find seating. If you’re looking for some good barbeque, then Tank House will serve that up for you.

Pho Garden

5609 Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95822

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Since Futami Japanese restaurant closed its doors in wait for the next restaurant to open, people were expecting Fatty Cow Hot Pot to open in its place since a sign was put up. However, months later, Pho Garden became the eventual tenant at the location. Upon entering, you will see that the restaurant is fairly modern with dark colors and flat-screen TVs on the wall playing NBA TV. Service was OK at first as we were seated in the side of the restaurant. Upon looking through the menu, I found that the menu was fairly limited and seemed slightly pricy. Also, you will notice that there is only one size for Pho.

Today, we ordered the Pho Tai (Rare Steak), Grilled Pork Chop Rice Plate, and Grilled Pork and Imperial Rolls Vermicelli Noodles. The Pho came in a medium-sized piping-hot bowl with onions in it, when I specifically said no onions when ordering. The broth was fairly clear and extremely oily. There was not much body to the broth at all. There was an OK amount of beef inside, but it was mostly cooked already since the broth was so hot. I ended up picking out the onions and added some hoisin sauce to bring up the flavor. Also, I found that there were limited condiments available to flavor the Pho, which only really included hoisin sauce, sriracha, salt, pepper, and pickled jalapeno. There was not enough noodles and the noodles tasted crunchy. The grilled pork chop rice plate came with pork chops that were cut thinner than other restaurants and rice that was hard. The dish was quite hard to eat without drinking more water at the same time. The marinade for the pork was good though. The vermicelli dish came in a plate instead of bowl like other restaurants, which made it harder to mix than usual. The “imperial rolls” tasted OK and were very hot. The vermicelli tasted OK, but there was not enough meat to go with the dish.

Overall, Pho Garden offers a small menu with the usual Vietnamese dishes. However, the prices charged for the amount of food received is not a great value. Also, we had to ask for the check ourselves even though we had finished eating for a many minutes already. They had no excuse since the restaurant was fairly empty. Unfortunately, the Pho really fell short here, which is a major concern for a Pho restaurant. The other dishes were OK, but I cannot believe they did not know now to cook rice properly. Unfortunately, even though this restaurant is so close to home, I cannot recommend this restaurant and thus suggest you go to Stockton Boulevard to eat at Saigon Restaurant instead.

Hash House A Go Go – Las Vegas – Part 2

6800 W Sahara Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89146

Rating: ★★★★☆

On this visit to Las Vegas, we had to go and eat at Hash House A Go Go again, but this time off the strip. This location was actually quite a bit farther than expected, but there was still a long wait time. With such a long wait so far from the strip, you can definitely tell that the locals know what’s good to eat. After a 30 minute wait or so, our party was finally seated. The server was nice, but quite busy with all the tables.

Today, we ordered the fresh-squeezed orange juice as well as Andy’s Sage Fried Chicken Benedict. The orange juice definitely tasted fresh and was filled with flavor with each sip. When Andy’s Sage Fried Chicken Benedict arrived, we were shocked at how much food there was on the plate. The entirety of the plate was smothered over by the chipotle cream over the biscuits and mashed potatoes. The chicken was was tender and stayed crispy and flavorful atop the dish.

Overall, Hash House A Go Go serves up large plates of delicious food at reasonable prices. Service is pretty good considering how busy the restaurant was that day. There are still many items on the menu that I want to try next time as well. If you are looking for crazy brunch food, head to Hash House A Go Go.

Bento Box

2449 Fair Oaks Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★★☆

In search of some fulfilling Asian food in the Fair Oaks area, we ended up at Bento Box. Upon entering, we were promptly seated in the restaurant that was not too busy. Since we came in on a Monday during lunch, I was able to order from the daily lunch special menu.

Today, we ordered the chicken teriyaki with gyoza from the Monday lunch special menu as well as the pork teriyaki plate. Both meals came in nicely plated boxes with adequate amounts of meat and rice. The provided salad tasted fresh and refreshing. The pickled daikon radish tasted fresh and was tasty as well. The gyoza tasted OK, but was a bit crispy and didn’t taste all that special. The chicken was tender and had great grill-marks. The pork teriyaki also tasted good while being soft and tender. I like how they provided the fortune cookie as part of the meal.

During the meal, we were checked on a few times and our waters were refilled. Service was excellent from start to finish. Overall, Bento Box served up tasty food with great service. If you are looking for great tasting teriyaki in a comfortable environment, then Bento Box will be the right place to go.
