Taste of Thai

1628 Broadway
Sacramento, CA 95818

Rating: ★★★★☆

On a lunch trip, we decided to try out Taste of Thai on Broadway. The restaurant was fairly busy during the lunch hour, but there was a good amount of seating available. There is no parking lot available, so we parked in the neighborhood behind the restaurant.

Today, I ordered the egg rolls and the red curry with pork from the lunch menu. The egg rolls were OK, but there was not much flavor and only a bunch of vegetables inside. The red curry meal came with the choice of either soup or salad. I ordered the salad, which tasted quite fresh and flavorful; however, I was not a big fan of the peanut-based dressing. The red curry arrived on a long plate with plenty of curry and a good amount of rice. There was a good balance between meat and vegetables, even though I only ate the meat. The curry tasted amazing and tasted great smothered all over the rice. The pork was cooked tender and went well with the rice. Unfortunately, since I did not eat any of the vegetables, I left a bunch of vegetables on my plate when I was finished.

Overall, Taste of Thai serves up a variety of Thai dishes with a great lunch menu. Although the egg rolls were not the best, the curry tasted excellent. Service was great considering the size of our party and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. If you work near Broadway, then Taste of Thai could be a good option for you.

Starbread

2101 Natomas Crossing Dr Ste 150

Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★★½

When you think of Filipino bakeries, you need to think about Senorita bread. In addition to their location on Mack Road in South Sacramento, this location in Natomas serves up the famous Senorita bread in addition to a bunch of other Filipino baked goods. Upon entering, I was greeted by staff who asked what I would like to order.

Today, I ordered 30 pieces of Senorita bread. Thirty may seem like a lot, but when you eat 3-6 on each attempt, that is not too bad. If you buy a box of 60 for your office, expect them all to be gone within the hour. After ordering the bread, they quickly put in a batch in the oven to bake fresh for you. After three to five minutes, my box of sweet goodness was ready to take home. The box was very hot from all the hot bread. The bread tasted extremely fresh and soft. There is a slight sweetness to each bite as they melt in your mouth. The Senorita bread tastes best fresh, but they still taste good over the period of a week. The bread tends to harden over time, so just microwave it for a few seconds to bring some warmth and softness to the bread.

Overall, Starbread serves up some delicious Senoria bread. I was not brave enough to try out their other offerings, but I’m sure they would be delicious as well. Each piece equates to $0.40, so the price is OK, but you will find yourself easily eating up quite a few pieces. If you have a chance to visit Starbread, be sure to order some Senorita bread.

Flaming Grill Cafe

2319 El Camino Ave

Sacramento, CA 95821

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

With a Groupon deal in hand, we decided to try out Flaming Grill CafĆ©. Known for their variety of meat selections and creative concoctions, the Flaming Grill CafĆ© fulfills the burger desires ofĀ  many. The restaurant has a small amount of seating available, but many are forced to wait for a table or to take the items to go.

Today, we decided to order to go and ordered the PB&J and the Buffalo Burger. We upgraded the regular fries to garlic fries and carne asada fries respectively. Upon first inspection, both burgers looked greasy and completely unhealthy. There was a huge portion of food in both takeout containers. The PB&J had an interesting taste, but the sauce was getting everywhere as I felt my arteries clogging. Other than being greasy, the garlic fries tasted good and had a good amount of garlic flavor. The buffalo burger looked even more unhealthy with the fried onion strings and dripping grease. The meat tasted very lean and tender. The carne asada fries tasted OK, but they did not have much flavor. There was a good amount of cheese and meat over the greasy fries.

Overall, Flaming Grill CafƩ serves up a variety of interesting burgers with many side selections. Without the Groupon, I would have felt that the price was not worth it. You do get a lot of food for the money, but there is just way too much food. Not only is there a lot of food, but also the food tasted and looked extremely unhealthy. If given another opportunity to visit this location, I would probably pass. If you really wanted to try out different meat burgers, then you should come visit, otherwise, go elsewhere.

Quickly – Davis

640 W Covell Blvd

Davis, CA 95616

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located in North Davis in the Save Mart shopping center, Quickly serves up a variety of boba drinks and some Asian dishes. Today, I ordered the lychee slush with lychee jelly as well as their popcorn chicken. The drink arrived first and tasted OK with a decent amount of flavor, but was nothing special. The popcorn chicken actually took a while to arrive. There was a large portion of chicken in the container, but the breading was pretty soft and was not crispy at all.

Overall, Quickly serves up a good selection of drink and menu items, but the resulting drinks and food are just OK. If you are in North Davis and are feeling like getting a boba drink, then Quickly will serve its purpose. If you have a chance, I suggest driving down to South Davis for Teabo instead.

Drewski’s Pit Stop

5504 Dudley Blvd

McClellan AFB, CA 95652

Rating: ★★½☆☆

In search for good tasting lunch near McClellan AFB, we ended up at Drewski’s Pit Stop. Having tried Drewski’s in the past at their food truck, I had high expectations during this visit. There is a good amount of seating around the restaurant inside and outside.

Today, we ordered the Mustang, Tricycle with a side of Drewski’s famous tots, and Mac & Cheese. The Mustang had Korean marinated beef, kimchi, daikon, sriracha-wasabi aioli, aged Havarti and Swiss on sliced French bread. The sandwich itself tasted quite greasy and was hard to keep together. The beef and kimchi tasted OK, but it didn’t taste special at all. The tricycle is basically grilled cheese consisting of cheddar, Swiss, and Havarti on sliced French bread. The sandwich was definitely cheesy and tasted OK, but there was not much flavor from this mix of cheeses. The tots were the best part because there was a great rosemary flavor that went well with Ketchup. The Mac & Cheese was way overpriced for the tiny cup received, and it didn’t even have much flavor. There was a good amount of cheese though.

Overall, this adventure to Drewski’s was quite disappointing with the mediocre slow service, expensive prices, long wait, and greasy food. If you wanted to try out an interesting sandwich, then Drewski’s would be an option, but don’t expect to eat anything healthy. You might have better luck at their food truck.
