Teabo Cafe – Davis

2191 Cowell Blvd

Davis, CA 95616

Rating: ★★★★★

Located in South Davis in the Safeway shopping center, Teabo Café serves up a variety of natural boba drinks along with the usual boba snacks. They take all major credit cards with square. The restaurant is decorated with many panda figures all over the place, including the restroom. You may not see the cafe location at first, but it is located closer to the street in the buildings near the pet store.

Today, I ordered a lychee slush, garlic fries, and popcorn chicken. The lychee slush tasted really refreshing and was flavored well. The price of the large-sized cup was acceptable. There were plenty of drink options available with various add-ins and sweetness levels. The garlic fries were amazing! There was plenty of real garlic pieces spread all over the fries. There was so much garlic that it was burning my mouth at times with the spice. The portion size for the large is a great value considering the amount of garlic used and the amount of fresh fries provided. The popcorn chicken tasted very fresh and the breading was slightly crispy. When received, the chicken was steaming hot with a bit of spice. Every piece was tender, and the portion size was good too.

Overall, Teabo Café serves up delicious food along with their drinks. You should expect to receive your drinks way before your food because the food is cooked fresh in the back. Prices are good overall, and the flavor of the food and drinks are excellent. If you are looking for a nice place to study or relax, then Teabo Café will keep you hydrated and full.

Broderick Burger Company (formerly Wicked Wich)

545 Downtown Plaza #2095

Sacramento, CA 95814

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

While looking for the Wicked Wich restaurant in the food court of Downtown Plaza, we found that the name has changed to the Broderick Burger Company. The owners are the same, and there have only been a few menu changes. Originally known for their creative sandwiches and now also for their burgers, the Broderick Burger Company serves up interesting food concoctions that will satisfy your hunger.

Today, we ordered the Wicked Wich with pastrami, Miss Saigon, and Banh Mi Fries. The Wicked Wich was really tasty and had tender, flavorful pastrami. I was not a big fan of the coleslaw in the sandwich, but the fries inside the sandwich were delicious. The Miss Saigon sandwich looked good, but was overly salty. The sandwich had jalapenos, pickled vegetables, and pulled pork, which resembled traditional Banh Mi sandwiches, but the sauce was just way too salty. Likewise, the Banh Mi Fries was pretty much the Miss Saigon on top of a bed of fries. Unfortunately, the toppings were still way too salty. The fries themselves tasted really good and were sold at a great price when purchased alone.

Overall, the Broderick Burger Company serves up very interesting food, but the food quality seems hit or miss. I would advise against the Miss Saigon and Banh Mi Fries due to the saltiness, but maybe it was just a bad batch. During the lunch rush, the service was extremely slow and the staff seemed to be working as fast as they could. Crowds of people were just waiting for their food. If you want to eat something different for lunch, then Broderick Burger Company could be a good stop, but only if you have enough time to wait for the food.

The Old Teahouse – Davis

825 Russell Blvd,

Davis, CA 95616

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located inside the University Mall plaza, The Old Teahouse serves up a variety of boba drinks in addition to a large food menu. The small restaurant has a few tables for those who want to hang out while watching Chinese music videos from the wall-mounted TVs. When you enter the restaurant, you go towards the left side and wait in line to order your meal and or drink. Unfortunately, they only take cash, so be prepared. The Old Teahouse has all of your usual boba cafe offerings like popcorn chicken, but also serves a variety of Hong Kong style entrée dishes.

Today, I ordered a lychee slush and the tomato fried rice. The slush was refreshing and had the usual lychee flavor, but it wasn’t that great. The tomato fried rice came as a large portion loaded with tomato flavor. The dish came with an adequate amount of shrimp and egg. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of good tasting food received for the price.

Overall, The Old Teahouse serves up good tasting food with decent boba drinks. If you don’t mind the crowded ambiance and mediocre service, then The Old Teahouse will fulfill your late night Chinese food and boba cravings all in one place. If you haven’t been here before, then I suggest you give it a try, but if you are looking for great tasting Chinese food or great boba drinks, look elsewhere.

Lincoln Plaza Cafe

Lincoln Plaza North Building
400 P Street  Suite 1204
Sacramento  CA  95814

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Located inside CALPERS in the Lincoln Plaza North Building, the Lincoln Plaza Cafe serves up a variety of cuisines in addition to a rotating menu. Various food stations and a salad bar are available. You would visit each station for the food you want and then bring them to the cashiers to pay. The cafeteria room offers ample seating and the atrium has additional seating.
Today, we ordered the 3 piece fish and chips. The 3 pieces of fish were good-sized, but the breading was soggy. The fish did taste good with the tartar sauce though. There was an ample amount of fries, but they also tasted a bit old. The coleslaw was flavorless and did not have much dressing.
Overall, this particular meal did not go over so well, but I would give them another chance on other menu items. Prices are slightly high, but not by much. If you don’t know what you want to eat, a trip around the stations may provide some inspiration. If you are in the area, give this cafe a try.

Santouka – San Jose

75 Saratoga Ave

San Jose, CA 95129

Rating: ★★★★☆

On this visit to the south bay, we decided to try out a popular Ramen restaurant inside the Mitsuwa supermarket in San Jose. Santouka serves up a variety of ramen dishes at fairly high prices. The display case has visual representations of the various menu items available. A normal menu with more options is also available near the cash register. At this location, you wait in line to get to the cashier to make your order. Once you order, you wait for your number to be called to pick up your food. Various tables are available in the food plaza inside the supermarket.

Today, we ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen with Char Siu Rice Bowl as well as the Miso Ramen with Char Siu Rice Bowl. The Spicy Miso Ramen was a bit spicy, but not too bad. The broth had a lot of flavor and the meat was tasty. Unfortunately, there was not a lot of meat in the soup, and the pieces in the soup were quite fatty. The regular Miso Ramen was also very tasty, but also had only a few fatty pieces of meat. The soup was a bit heavy at times. The Char Siu Rice Bowl tasted good and had a slight sauce with the meat which went well with the rice. The combination of rice and ramen made the meal feel complete.

Overall, Santouka serves up delicious tasting ramen at expensive prices. If you really like ramen, you may want to give Santouka a try. If you do come here to eat, I suggest getting the ramen and rice bowl combinations because eating the ramen alone would not be too fulfilling. Santouka gets a high rating due to their high quality food, but prices still seem too high.
