Streets of London Pub – West Sacramento

2200 Lake Washington Blvd

West Sacramento, CA 95691

Rating: ★★½☆☆

With Amazon Local voucher in hand, we headed to Streets of London Pub in West Sacramento to try out some authentic fish and chips. The restaurant is located in the Lowe’s shopping center on the side of the lot. When we entered, we were prompted to seat ourselves and then a server promptly appeared with menus and drink orders.

Today, we ordered the bacon cheese burger with garlic fries and the full-sized fish and chips. The burger tasted really good and the meat tasted fresh. Unfortunately, the two onion rings on top of the burger were extremely greasy. You can feel the oil flow down your throat as you eat the rings. The garlic fries tasted OK, but there was not too much garlic flavor. Also, there was not much in terms of chunks of garlic at all visible on the fries. The fries were also greasier than the regular fries with the fried fish. The fish and chips came with a large chunk of fish atop a bed of fries. The fries tasted fresh and went well with ketchup. The fried fish tasted fresh, but like the onion rings, the breading felt quite greasy. The tartar sauce that accompanied the meal tasted sweet and delicious.

Overall, Streets of London Pub serves up good tasting food while providing great service, but the food was overly greasy. For the grease-factor alone, I do not recommend coming here often. If you do come here, avoid the fried foods. Prices are decent, but a little on the high side.

Aura Korean & Japanese Restaurant

1401 G St

Sacramento, CA 95814

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

I never thought I could say Korean food could be too sweet until my visit to Aura Korean & Japanese Restaurant. Located in midtown, this small restaurant serves up a variety of Korean and Japanese cuisine catering towards a younger crowd. Various drink specials and $0.75 shots are available. Servers were nice, but clumsy as she spilled a cup of water everywhere on the table.

A small selection of banchan was provided including a small salad with colorful sauces. The server was quick to refill anything due to the water spill incident. She also offered to comp an order of crazy fries for the spill. The crazy fries arrived next with various colorful sauces on top of a bed of tasty fries and beef bulgogi. The highlight of the meal was the crazy fries, which tasted amazing! For the rest of the meal, we ordered the Spicy Pork, Japchae Noodles, and Bi Bam Bap. The spicy pork tasted good and had many large pieces of meat, but there was a lot of sauce and tasted quite a bit sweeter than I was used to. The japchae noodles tasted good and had a lot of toppings, but also tasted sweeter than usual. The bi bam bap also tasted sweeter than other restaurants and did not really compare to a true Korean restaurant.

Overall, the food was pretty much mediocre and did not really taste authentic and way too sweet. If you do come, order the crazy fries because they taste amazing! Be wary of the servers so that they do not spill your drinks. Don’t be scared of the colorful sauces as they do taste really good. If you wanted to try something different or wanted to eat something sweet, head to Aura, but if you are looking for authentic Korean food, head to 88 Tofu or Rancho Cordova.

Rainforest Cafe – San Francisco

145 Jefferson St Ste 400

San Francisco, CA 94133

Rating: ★★★★☆

On a busy weekend, we ventured to Rainforest CafĆ© in Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. The restaurant had a wait time, but my loyalty card provided me with priority seating. There were plenty of people on the streets and in the gift shop as we approached the Restaurant entrance. Our party was seated quickly and a server quickly took our drink orders.

Today, we ordered the beastly burger and the parmesan chicken. During the meal, the manager and server checked on our table multiple times to see if everything tasted good and if we needed any refills. The burger patties for the burger were huge! With that said, the beastly burger had two of those huge patties. The burger tasted great and had good flavors, but was not too special. The parmesan chicken did not come with much pasta, but did come with a lot of chicken. The sauce was light and the dish as a whole tasted healthy. Other than the lack of pasta, the food did not disappoint.

Overall, Rainforest CafƩ serves up food in usually large portions that taste quite good, but the prices tend to be on the high-end. If you like eating in an animal-filled environment with fish tanks and waterfalls, then Rainforest CafƩ may be a good choice. If you want to eat here on the weekend, then be sure to arrive early or get the loyalty card. With such great service on this visit, I see myself visiting again in the future.

Rosati’s – Roseville

5140 Foothills Blvd Ste 110

Roseville, CA 95747

Rating: ★★★★★

In search for Chicago style deep dish pizza, we ended up heading to Roseville for Rosati’s tucked away in a small shopping center in the center of Roseville. You might actually miss the plaza unless you’re looking for the Dollar Tree next door. Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by the server behind the counter who also took our order. At this restaurant, you order your pizza and drinks at the counter before heading to your table. Rosati’s serves up a variety of different pizzas including Chicago style pizzas.

Today, we ordered the jalapeno poppers and a small Chicago deep dish pizza with pepperoni and Italian sausage. The jalapeno poppers came first, piping hot. The peppers went well with the ranch and had a lot of cream cheese stuffing. A little later, the server brought over the sliced pizza and placed a slice in each of our plates. The small-sized pizza was definitely enough for the both of us and we even had a ton of leftovers. The cheese and fixings were oozing from each slice and the tomato sauce tasted fresh with its chunks of tomato in every bite. The pepperoni and Italian sausage was plentiful and apparent in every bite. Since the slices were so big, I was only able to eat two slices.

Overall, the food tasted great and the service was excellent. If you are looking for some deep dish pizza, then Rosati’s will not disappoint. Matched up with great service and plenty of seating, a short drive to Roseville will liven up your taste buds. Although it’s pizza, this Chicago style deep dish pizza tasted healthy and delicious.

Red Hawk Casino – High Limit Bar

1 Red Hawk Pkwy

Placerville, CA 95667

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Hidden inside the high limit area, the bar serves up a variety of dishes for anyone’s tastes. All you really need to do is go up to the bar and ask for a menu. Prices are moderate considering you are in high limit. There are a couple of tables near the bar if you preferred to eat there.

Today, we ordered the beef pho and burger with sweet potato fries. My mom ordered the sushi, which looked good and was said to taste good. The beef pho had a small portion size and did not have the array of toppings that you would find in a pho restaurant. Unfortunately, the meat in the pho was also chewy. The burger had a thick patty that tasted really fresh and the meat tasted high quality. The sweet potato fries were cooked well and had a slight crisp. All of the food arrived fresh at the table and was of good temperature.

Overall, the high limit bar serves up some classy food, but the quality was not up to high limit standards. The highlight of the meal was the burger, so that definitely would be a good choice here. If you wanted to eat here, you might want to play some video poker at the bar or elsewhere in the high limit area so that the bartender doesn’t look at you funny. Although, given another opportunity, I probably would not dine here again.
