Sumo Sushi – Part 2

2338 Fair Oaks Blvd

Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★½☆

The last visit to Sumo Sushi was not that great due to the over-battered shrimp tempura in the rolls. Today, I wanted to give them another shot to see if the other day was just a fluke.

Today, I ordered the shrimp tempura appetizer, crunchy California, sushi boy, and Lion King. The portion size for the shrimp tempura was pretty good, but the shrimp was still over-battered. Although, the shrimp tempura on its own tasted good. The crunchy California was more about seeing the pile of tempura flakes than the taste. The roll itself tasted OK, but it was nothing special. I actually didn’t care much for the flakes. The sushi boy tasted ok and the salmon tasted fresh, but the shrimp tempura inside was disappointing like last time. The lion king tasted good, but I still prefer the taste of the roll at Arigatos.

Overall, the rolls at Sumo Sushi taste OK, but I feel that Arigatos has better tasting rolls. Sumo does do better in the fact that their rolls are larger, and that is especially evident in the lion king. Prices are low/same as Arigatos, so that’s a plus. Next time I crave for sushi, I’ll probably just head to Arigatos.

Tea Cup House

Today, I got to try my first delivered Chinese food from Tea Cup House. I have been to the restaurant a very long time ago, but have not tried out their delivery service. Delivery requires a minimum order of $22. You can call in your order or just order online using their website with comprehensive menu.

Today, I ordered theĀ pan fried noodle with beef and vegetables. The food arrived quickly. The meat and vegetables were at the bottom of the tray and the noodles were on top to avoid having the noodles get too soggy. The sauce was tasty and went well with the beef and noodles. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. The beef was tender and plentiful.

Overall, the noodle dish tasted good and arrived at a good temperature. If given the opportunity again, I would order again from Tea Cup House. If you work downtown and are craving some Chinese food, try out Tea Cup House.

Oz Korean BBQ – Part 3

2605 Riparian Dr
Elk Grove, CA 95757

Rating: ★★★★½

With gift card in hand, we decided to try out Oz’s new location in Elk Grove. At the time of the review, Oz was only serving the all you can eat menu (plus desserts) without a full menu. This was not a problem for us since we were planning for all you can eat anyways. This location is extremely hard to find and is hidden behind other buildings and a gas station. There is no high or bright signage pointing you to the restaurant. Also, when you get to the door, there is no sign there to tell you to go into the dark building. When we arrived, we were quickly seated in the large, high ceiling restaurant. The server quickly took our drink order before allowing us time to decide on what to order.

We were served a decent amount of banchan (side dishes), which tasted pretty good.Ā Just like the Bradshaw location, you are allowed 4 dishes at a time. In total, today we tried out the pot stickers, young’s sweet chili wings, galbi, sesame beef, bul-go-gi, sweet pork, chili pork, soy garlic sam-gyup-sal, and garlic shrimp. Overall, all the meat dishes tasted really good and had been marinated well. The round grill did seem to get charred pretty quick, but we were pretty full by the time the grill got too charred.

Overall, the food tasted really good and if you don’t mind cooking your own food, then Oz is the place to go. As of today, weekend pricing F-Su is $20.99 per adult and $10.99 per child 4-10yrs, and weekday pricingĀ M-Th is $19.99 per adult and $10.99 per child.Ā There were not too many people there for lunch on Saturday, but I can also assume that this location would not be as busy at the Bradshaw location at night. If you are craving some Korean BBQ and didn’t want to wait so long to get a table, then you might want to try out this location.

Sumo Sushi

2338 Fair Oaks Blvd

Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Located inside an old Wendy’s, Sumo Sushi attempts to serve the Sac State community by offering their rolls at 50% off (just like Arigato’s). The 50% off even includes the huge sushi boats that are filled with rolls. As you look at the menu, you may find a few items that look extremely similar (same) as Arigato’s. Now, Sumo Sushi does not have as much swag or as large as a crowd, but the portion sizes are a bit bigger at Sumo. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly as we waited for more people to show up.

Today, we ordered the Watt, Shrimp Lover, Tempura Roll, and the Lemon Salmon. The total after tax was $24.33, which was pretty good for 4 good sized rolls. The four rolls were served on a single platter with the standard wasabi and pickled ginger condiments. Overall, all four rolls tasted really good, except all of the tempura shrimp in the rolls had a really chewy breading. The breading also seems quite thicker and less crispier than that of Arigato’s. The lemon salmon roll was very interesting because the lemon flavor is very pronounced with the real lemon pieces. As usual, all of the rolls tasted even better when dipped into some more special sauce. A sushi boat occupied most of the space in front of us and was very interesting to look at. I did not try those rolls because I wanted to focus on the rolls we ordered.

Overall, Sumo Sushi does craft up good tasting sushi but with thick chewy tempura batter. As of now, seating should not be a problem. If the wait is too long at Arigato’s, give Sumo Sushi a try; it’s right down the street. If you are craving sushi, I would try and hit Arigato’s first.

The Sports Page Pub & Grill

14455 Hwy 16
Brooks, CA 95606

Rating: ★★★★☆

After trying the garlic fries here before, we needed to return and give it another shot. Located inside Cache Creek Casino Resort, The Sports Page Pub & Grill is situated in the rear left side of the casino. A decent amount of seating is available, but we had a small wait because the restaurant was at capacity. After being seated by who looked like the restaurant manager, our server came to check on us and was able to take our order when we were ready.

Today, we ordered the Garlic Fries, BLT, and Jack Daniels Burger. The garlic fries tasted amazing with the provided aioli sauce. I also found it nice how the fries were served in a mini fry basket. There was a good amount of garlic on the fries and were cooked well. The BLT was not that amazing because it felt a bit dry. There was a good amount of bacon in the sandwich, but it would have been nice to have some turkey to add some more moisture to the sandwich. The included curly fries tasted good and went well with ketchup. The Jack Daniels Burger also came with the same good tasting curly fries. The burger had the signature Jack Daniels flavor and was moist. I would definitely pick the burger over the BLT.

Overall, The Sports Page Pub & Grill did not disappoint. With the exception of the BLT, the food tasted amazing and was definitely worth ordering. Pricing and service are a plus here with food taste not too far behind. If you are in the area and need an affordable tasty bite, then you would definitely want to pay The Sports Page Pub & Grill a visit.
