Mo Du Rang – Part 2

9545 Folsom Blvd
Ste 2
Sacramento, CA 95827

Rating: ★★★★☆

Today, we decided to try out Mo Du Rang again to check out their other dishes. Today, we ordered the beef bulgogi and the kimchi pork stew. We received the usual banchan (free appetizers), but we didn’t receive any Korean pancake like the previous time. I also noticed on the menu that they had raised some prices and taken some menu items out. The highlight for the banchan was the potatoes that were soft and sweet. The beef bulgogi was absolutely delicious. Every piece of meat was juicy, tender, and filled with marinated flavor. The kimchi pork stew was quite spicy, and carried quite a bit of kimchi flavor. There was not much pork in there and mostly consisted of vegetables.

Overall, Mo Du Rang still serves up really good tasting food, but they lost points on prices going up and the lack of pancake. If you are up in the air about what Korean restaurant to eat at, then Mo Du Rang will end up being one of your choices.

Oscar’s Very Mexican Food – Part 2

3061 Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818

Rating: ★★★½☆

Oscar’s has finally reopened at their original location across from C.K. McClatchy High School. The new location does provide for more room inside the restaurant, but a bit less space for parking. Most people end up having to park along the street next to Oscar’s.

Today, we ordered the California burrito, cheese fries, carne asada fries, and chicken torta. Compared to the California burrito I ordered from the West Sacramento location, this one was a ton more greasy. I was really disappointed when I started to feel the grease run down my throat and down my arm. By the time I got to the end of the burrito, I found another pocket of grease inside the wrapper. With that said, the burrito was still delicious with its French fry and steak center. The cheese fries were ok, but the chips also tasted overly greasy. The carne asada fries are worth it because the dish is piled high with meat, cheese, guac, and sour cream all over a bed of fries. Unfortunately, these fries were also quite greasy. The rest of the toppings were delicious. The torta was pretty soggy on the bottom, and the flavor was quite bland. I would advise against the cheese chips or torta.

Overall, I’m happy that Oscar’s has finally reopened, but I’m also disappointed at the quality of the food on this visit. I know I came at a very busy time within a week of reopening, but that shouldn’t mean that I needed a heart attack. If you have never tried Oscar’s before, I would still give it a chance. Just make sure you allow them to cool down a bit or visit when they are not busy. You can even go visit them in West Sacramento.

Yummy Juice Cafe – Part 2

3005 B Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818

Rating: ★★★★☆

On this visit to Yummy Café, we decided to try out their Chinese dinner menu where you can choose 3 different dishes for around $22. We ended up ordering the tomato chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken hot pot. The meal comes with complementary soup as well as white rice. The soup tasted pretty good, was light, and felt healthy. The tomato beef actually has quite a bit of tomato flavor and was seasoned well. The broccoli beef was a bit saltier, but the broccoli was cooked softer, just how I liked it. The chicken hot pot did come in a pot, but the pot wasn’t hot. The flavors definitely shone through in the chicken and Chinese sausage.

Overall, for around $22, the three dish meal is actually a pretty good value. Portion sizes are adequate, but could be a bit bigger. I would definitely come back again to order this meal. Yummy Café makes it even better because they are open pretty late. It also might be worth coming by during their afternoon happy hour where they have many popular rice plates for around $5-$7.

Krush Burger

700 N 10th St
Sacramento, CA 95811

Rating: ★★★★½

Although Krush Burger opened their new location on north 10th street, it is still nice to go out to food truck events like the food truck event at Garcia Bend every month. When we got to the Krush Burger truck, there must have been at least 14 people ahead of us. The entire park was bustling with activity from all over. There were at least 10 different food trucks at this event.

While we were waiting in line, we decided to order the Original, Cowbell, and the Ninja. All of Krush Burger’s burgers are in slider form. You get two sliders for around $6.58, but special sliders cost $1 more per slider. The original slider had the traditional lettuce and tomato toppings, but the highlight of the slider was the delicious taste of the beef. The Cowbell was a bit more interesting because in lieu of the lettuce and tomato, the slider had BBQ sauce and crispy onion strings. I actually thought the Cowbell was really good because it was not too salty and you could still taste the meat through all the fixings. The Ninja was OK, mainly because the Asian sauce they used was way too salty. The overall taste of the additional meat and sauce did come together, but I don’t feel it was worth the extra dollar. We also ordered fries that was mostly good, except for a couple of pieces that were undercooked. They also sell bottled water with their name on it.

Overall, Krush Burger serves up some delicious sliders are pretty darn high prices, but they are definitely worth trying out. If you wanted to avoid the crowds at Food Truck events, you might want to hit their restaurant up inside the California Lottery building instead. You will get a gourmet burger at the price you pay. There is a reason that there is always a long line outside Krush Burger trucks. Don’t worry, they take credit cards. If you get a chance, try out Krush Burger!

Smashburger

1735 Arden Way
Ste 226
Sacramento, CA 95815

Rating: ★★★★½

With newly purchased gift cards from Costco in hand ( 2x$25 for $39.99), we ventured to Smashburger inside Market Square at Arden. Located around the corner inside the square near the United Artists Theater, Smashburger is an order first sit down fast food restaurant.

Today, we ordered the All American Burger and the Spicy Baja Burger. My All American Burger was juicy and delicious. Smashburger likes to plate your burger with the top bun off so that you can top the burger to your liking. I topped my burger with lettuce, ketchup, and mustard. The Spicy Baja Burger definitely had a kick. The flavors were there and the meat was equally juicy and flavorful. Fries come optional at Smashburger, so we had one order of fries that was cooked to a proper crispiness.

Overall, Smashburger serves up different delicious burgers that you can finish topping on your own. Prices are moderate, but worth the price for what you get. I strongly suggest purchasing the gift cards from Costco if you get the chance since you will save $10. If you are catching a movie or are just in the area, stop by Smashburger for some good fresh burgers.
