Buca Di Beppo

1212 Galleria Blvd
Roseville, CA 95678

Rating: ★★★★★

As we entered the restaurant for lunch, we were given a tour of the kitchen on the way to the table. We opted to order off of the lunch menu as the main menu portion sizes would have been way too big. Service was spectacular and pricing moderate.

Today, we ordered the cheesy garlic bread, lasagna, and chicken parmigianaĀ  with pasta. We were served some tasty complimentary bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar dipping sauce. We also ordered a bowl of Italian Wedding Soup which was tasty. The cheesy garlic bread was very delicious and cheesy. The lasagna was rich and fulfilling, The chicken parmigiana was tender, juicy, and fulfilling. Even though we ordered lunch portions, the sizes of dishes were definitely large.

Overall, the food and service was great on this visit to Buca. I cannot speak for the service from the Arden location, but I can say that the Roseville location passed with flying colors. We did come with a coupon, so make sure you have one ready before coming.

Leatherbyā€™s Family Creamery – Part 2

2333 Arden Way
Ste A
Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★★½

It was time for another visit to this famed Sacramento creamery. Today, we ordered the chili cheese fries and a Grandma’s Creamery Sundae. The chili cheese fries were OK, but it lacked some flavor. The sundae was AMAZING!. There was so much rich caramel over mounds of vanilla ice cream. The caramel continued to ooze onto the plate below. Overall, you want to hit up Leatherby’s at least a few times a year to engulf some of their huge ice cream creations.

Back 40 Texas BBQ

1201 Orlando Ave
Roseville, CA 95661

Rating: ★★★☆☆

With an entertainment coupon in hand, we decided to have a simple lunch at Back 40 Texas BBQ. Located off of Riverside Boulevard in Roseville, CA, Back 40 Texas BBQ serves up a variety of traditional BBQ items. As we entered, we found that the restaurant was quite quiet, and had more elderly customers than young ones.

Today, we ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich with a side of Mac N Cheese and a Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. The prime rib sandwich was OK. The prime rib didn’t taste really fresh, but had flavor. The Mac N Cheese was creamy and good. The dish seemed kind of small, but was fulfilling. Fortunately, the pulled pork sandwich was filled with flavor and was quite saucy. The fries were tasty and fresh.

Overall, Back 40 Texas BBQ serves up some good food; however, I do not think that I would come to the restaurant without a coupon. The prices did seem quite high for what you get.

Gunther’s Ice Cream Shop

2801 Franklin Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Gunther’s Ice Cream Shop is a Sacramento classic located off of Franklin Boulevard in Curtis Park. All of the seats and tables were filled to the brim and the line protrudes out to the street. This popular ice cream joint serves up many homemade flavors and also their signature real fruit freeze.

Today, we ordered a 50-50 (half freeze half ice cream) and a strawberry cheesecake scoop on in a waffle cone. The 50-50 was interesting because of the vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two levels of orange fruit freeze. The orange fruit freeze itself was a bit sour, but went very well with the sweet creamy ice cream. The Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream tasted good, but there was no cheesecake flavor at all. The flavor was more reminiscent of supermarket strawberry swirl ice cream. The waffle cone was tasty and crunchy.

Overall, Gunther’s serves up good tasting ice cream of many flavors, but from the looks of the strawberry cheesecake flavor, some flavor may be lacking. The real fruit freeze is definitely a treat, but prepare for a rush of sour. The business is extremely busy on hot weekends, so expect a long line and a decent wait. If you are looking to taste a piece of Sacramento’s history, you will find that at Gunther’s.

Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs – Reno, NV

6300 Mae Anne Ave
Reno, NV 89523

Rating: ★★★★★

Reno voted Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs as best breakfast. Since one of their locations was on the way home, we had to give them a try. According to their website, they will be opening on in Roseville soon. Unfortunately, they are mainly only open from early morning until lunch.

Today, we ordered their fresh squeezed orange juice, Country Sausage and Egg, and Island Pork Chops. The OJ tasted really good! If you come here for breakfast, you must order a glass! The County Sausage and Eggs was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly; the sausage was not overly salty; the hash brown patty was cooked crispy and delicious, the cantaloupe was OK, and the toast came buttered. The Island Pork Chops tasted really good for the fact that this was not an Asian restaurant. The pork chops were tender and flavorful; the Sauce was a bit thick and overly applied; and the macaroni salad was delicious and unique while tasting very fresh.

Overall, Peg’s Glorified Ham N Eggs serves up delicious breakfast food. I can’t wait until they open their new location in Roseville. If I can’t wait any longer, I may have to drive up to Reno again for some breakfast. This is definitely a must go!
