CF Cheng – Part 3

2063 Arena Blvd
Ste 140
Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Things have changed quite a bit since my last visit to CF Cheng. They added even more authentic Chinese food offerings on a second menu. The staff seemed to change as well, but the service got a bit worse.

Today, I ordered the wonton noodle soup. The broth was quite flavorful and tasty. The wontons were meaty and of decent quantity. The egg noodles tasted fresh. I ended up eating and drinking the entire dish.

Overall, the food still tastes pretty good, but the service did take a toll. If you don’t mind the wait, CF Cheng still serves up good food.

Denny’s – Part 2

300 Bercut Dr
Sacramento, CA 95811

Rating: ★★★★☆

This new Denny’s location is right off of Richards Blvd on I-5. There is definitely a sense of new restaurant as you enter the clean open restaurant. The staff seems completely changed from the previous Downtown location. I did not expect, but did receive excellent service from our server Jon.

Today, we ordered the french toast dinner from the 2-4-6-8 menu, the seafood platter from the 2-4-6-8 menu, and a strawberry mango pucker. The french toast platter tasted a whole lot better than the one from Johnny Rockets. The temperature was just right, eggs and hash browns cooked right, and the french toast flavorful. The seafood platter comes with a soft drink, or can be upgraded to a fruity drink. The seafood platter comes with tasty fish and shrimp that can be dipped into the flavorful tartar sauce. The broccoli was not overcooked. Denny’s was out of their regular fries so they substituted seasoned fries at no additional charge. The dinner bread that it comes with is OK, but tasted a bit burnt. The strawberry mango pucker was good, but a bit too sour.

Overall, Denny’s continues to serve up good tasting food at even better prices. Most Denny’s are also open 24-hours including this one. This Denny’s provided surprisingly good service rivaling that of the West Sacramento location. If you want good cheap food, head to Denny’s (this location or West Sac only).

Taqueria Rincon AlteƱo

4301 Truxel Rd
Ste D1
Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★★☆

If you want real Mexican food, you go to a Taqueria. If you are in Natomas, then you are going to Taqueria Rincon AlteƱo. Located on a strip mall near Sleep Train Arena, Taqueria Rincon AlteƱo serves up a variety of authentic Mexican foods.

Today, I ordered three asada (steak) crispy tacos and one pollo (chicken) crispy taco. Normally, I order their tasty soft tacos, but today I decided to try something else. Every one of the crispy tacos were fried to perfection. The steak and chicken were both filled with flavor and tasted even better when you add in some hot red sauce. I also had this melon drink that tasted very good, but I do not know the name of it (It’s in the adjoining dispenser with the Horchata). I also indulged in the free tortilla chip bar, which is consistently refilled with fresh hot chips.

Overall, Taqueria Rincon AlteƱo serves up delicious Mexican food in Natomas. You will be sure to like their selection of Mexican food. I did find their food to be a bit greasy, but that grease sure tastes good. If you come with friends, you can just tag along and get a complimentary water and eat free tortilla chips, as long as your friends don’t get too embarrassed.

Gatsby’s Diner

2598 Alta Arden Expy #3

Sacramento, CA 95825

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Located across from Target in Arden, Gatsby’s Diner serves up a variety of diner food cooked in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant had been featured on Food Network quite a while ago. The server provided good service upon entering and throughout the meal.

Today we ordered the Gatsby burger, Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger, and a chocolate milkshake. The food took more than 20 minutes to cook because there was only one chef and two tables ahead of us. The Gatsby burger was really juicy, but lacked flavor. The burgers either come with chips or fries. The homemade chips were pretty good, but not amazing. The Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger was equally juicy and had more flavor, but I still think In-n-Out burgers had more flavor than either burger. The chocolate shake was made from vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. The milkshake tasted OK, but you can definitely distinguish the chocolate syrup taste.

Overall, Gatsby’s Diner does have some TV fame attached to it, but I feel disappointed. The food took too long to cook and the taste was not there. I admire their creativity with the homemade chips and shake, but I’m sure there is better food elsewhere especially for the price. If you want to give Gatsby’s a try, then you won’t be very disappointed, but you won’t be awestruck either.

BJ’s – Part 5

3531 N Freeway Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★★½

I know you are tired of BJ’s reviews already, but they have so many types of food to review! Unfortunately, this visit to BJ’s did not warrant a 5/5. After the superbowl, the service was a bit lacking. The food was good as always.

Today, I ordered a full rack of ribs with a side of clam chowder. The clam chowder was flavorful and creamy as always. The ribs had a delicious BBQ sauce on them, but I wished there was more meat on the bones. The ribs came with a giant baked potato, which was cooked well.

Overall, BJ’s serves up pretty good tasting ribs. It doesn’t make much sense to order the half rack when the full rack is only a few dollars more. If you are deciding on which BJ’s location to dine in, you should still decide on the Natomas location due to their good food and usually good service.
