Ellis Island Cafe – Las Vegas

4178 Koval Ln
Las Vegas, NV 89109

Rating: ★★★★★

Ellis Island Casino & Brewery serves up delicious food at inexpensive prices. Located a couple blocks away from the strip, hungry visitors can come to Ellis Island for large portion sizes and friendly service. Posted next to the seating podium, a “Today’s Special” board lists food items at an even better price.

Today, I ordered the $5.99 8oz New York Steak and Eggs, $6.99 Grilled Italian Sausage and Eggs, $3.99 Biscuits and Gravy, and orange juice. The steak and eggs were delicious! Both entree plates included toast and breakfast potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection and was quite juicy. The eggs tasted fresh. The breakfast potatoes had great flavor and were crispy. The toast was perfectly toasted with butter pre-spread. The biscuits and gravy was savory and comforting. The gravy was chunky and flavorful.

Overall, Ellis Island serves up some tasty breakfast. If you are visiting Las Vegas, then this is a must go destination. It is definitely worth the walk from the strip. You can expect to get great tasting food at a great tasting price.

RoundTable Buffet – Excalibur – Las Vegas

3850 South Las Vegas Boulevard

Las Vegas, NV 89109

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Located inside the Excalibur Casino, the RoundTable buffet provides a family dining experience at a decent price. Luckily, we had free buffet passes from MyVegas on Facebook. The buffet was quite empty, even on a Friday evening. In the center of the buffet, one of two separate buffet lines are open filled with various food items that reminded me of Hometown buffet. The back of the buffet has more food items including a small carving station and Chinese food. Beverages are included and are self serve.

Today, I grabbed food that included salad, lasagna, chicken noodle soup, baked sole, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, baked chicken, fried rice, sushi, and soft serve ice cream. Overall, the food tasted really cheap and not really fresh. The food was edible, but not really tasty. We did receive good service from the staff and the food seemed to get refilled when needed, but the quality is a bit lacking.

Overall, the buffet at Excalibur is OK if you can go for free; however, I would never spend $19.99 per person to eat the food served there. The food is not really creative except for the baked sole and pasta dishes. If you are really hungry and can eat anything, you might think the buffet here is OK.

Jean Philippe Patisserie – Las Vegas

ARIA
3730 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109

Rating: ★★★★½

Jean Philippe Patisserie serves up a variety of desert and pastry items inside Aria. Items include gelato, crepes, cakes, and pastries. Since this is located inside Aria, prices are a bit on the higher side.

Today, we ordered the Tiramisu and the Fancy Nancy Red Velvet cupcake. The Tiramisu was delicious! There was a decorative chocolate piece on top of the bed of cookie crumbs. The filling and cake portion was creamy and light. The Tiramisu was not bitter nor sour. The Fancy Nancy Red Velvet cupcake was equally delicious. The red coating on top of light cream cheese and moist red velvet cake went together seamlessly. Each bite was filled with red fluffy goodness.

Overall, Jean Philippe Patisserie serves up some shiny looking delicious deserts. From looking at the fancy deserts alone, I would have to say they got some really good food. The only downside is that their prices are a bit high, averaging about $6.50 per item. If you have a chance to stop by Aria, give Jean Philippe Patisserie a taste, you won’t regret it.

Regent Seafood Restaurant is located in a nice shopping center in the Pocket area of Sacramento. Regent offers lunch special discounts as well as late night discounts. You will find the usual Cantonese food varieties served here at great prices.

Today, we ordered the $25 dinner meal that includes the soup of the day, beef with greens, honey pork, deep fried sole, and crispy fried chicken. We also added in a fish filet hot pot. The $25 meal is a great deal for groups of 2-4 people. The soup was cleansing and delicious. The beef with greens were flavorful and were quite juicy. The honey pork was delicious! There was an ample amount of meat and the glaze is amazing. The deep fried sole (sorry about the picture, got too hungry) was fried to perfection and was full of flavor. The crispy fried chicken was moist in both white and dark meat and was juicy all over. The fish filet hot pot had delicious fish filet chunks along with fried tofu.

Overall, the food and service at Regent is amazing! If you are near the Pocket area, you definitely need to give Regent a try. Out of all the years of past visits at this restaurant, I have never been disappointed with their food. Regent is a must go!

Rating: ★★★★☆

Located in a small strip mall with neighbors such as Subway, a doughnut shop, and a Mexican grill, CJ Teriyaki offers up some teriyaki on a street filled with restaurants. CJ Teriyaki has a simple menu filled with various teriyaki bowls and plates, maki rolls, tempura, and noodles.

Today, we ordered the California maki roll and pork teriyaki bowl. The California maki rolls were actually pretty good. The rice was at the right softness and there was just enough filling. $5.99 for 8 pieces is a bit steep, but it’s about right. The pork teriyaki bowl was delicious. The pork was tender and flavorful. The teriyaki sauce touched almost every grain of rice. The sauce was sweet and savory.

Overall, CJ Teriyaki cooks up some good pork teriyaki and California rolls. If you are in the area and don’t feel like going to Raley’s for a chicken teriyaki bowl, then CJ Teriyaki will serve up some delicious teriyaki.
