Sea Pal Cove – Fort Bragg

32390 N Harbor Dr

Fort Bragg, CA 95437

Rating: ★★★★½

Located in the Noyo Harbor area of Fort Bragg, Sea Pal Cove serves up delicious fresh fried seafood to the masses. As you approach the small restaurant, you will see plenty of outdoor seating near the river. On this takeout visit to the restaurant, we found them to be extremely busy. After a brief review of the menu while waiting in line, we were ready to order.

Today, we decided to try the clam chowder, fish & chips, and prawns & chips. The clam chowder was nice and thick containing plenty of clams inside. Their recipe is different because it includes celery, onion, and herbs, which made the soup have many green accents. The flavor was pretty good, but I was expecting it to be richer. The fish & chips came fried to perfection. The breading was not too thick and maintained its crispiness. The highlight was their house-made tartar sauce that was filled with rich herbal flavors that paired perfectly with the fresh fish. The prawns were humongous and had the same light breading as the fish. The same amazing tartar sauce went perfectly with the gigantic prawns as well. The fries from both dishes tasted OK, but they were nothing special.

Overall, the food quality is pretty majestic at Sea Pal Cove, especially the fried seafood and tartar sauce. If you are visiting Fort Bragg, you must give this place a try. We did go during the dinner rush, so our takeout order did take over 30-40 minutes before it was ready, which was a bit unbearable in the cold, rainy weather. Prices here are decent for the type of food received. Regardless, the food speaks for itself here, so you must give them a try.

Laurel Deli & Desserts – Fort Bragg

401 N Main St

Fort Bragg, CA 95437

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located right across from the Skunk Train station, Laurel Deli & Desserts serves up a variety of American food to hungry travelers. As you enter the restaurant, you are able to seat yourself. On this breakfast visit, we were able to locate a large table in the back of the restaurant. Not long after being seated, a server came by with menus and took our drink order. After reviewing the menu, we were ready to order.

On this visit, I decided to order the lumberjack breakfast burrito. The breakfast was loaded with sausage, potato, egg, and cheese. The sour cream and salsa added to the flavor of the burrito. Unfortunately, if you do not use the sour cream or salsa and you don’t bite any sausage, the burrito is pretty bland.

Overall, this quaint restaurant does serve up decent tasting food. Service is friendly, and there is plenty of parking nearby. Prices are decent for the amount of food received. If you happen to be visiting Fort Bragg and are near the Skunk Train, be sure to pay Laurel Deli & Desserts a visit.

Yak & Yeti Restaurant – Orlando FL

775 Werikhe Way

Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, Yak & Yeti serves up Asian-inspired dishes in the Asia area of the park. Owned by Landry’s Restaurant Group, Yak & Yeti takes part in the Landry’s Select Club membership where you can get priority seating, even without a reservation. Since we did not book a reservation and no reservations were available, we opted for this service, and we were seated after a short wait. Upon getting seated and provided with menus, a server arrived to take our order.

Today, we decided to order the crispy honey chicken, lobster garlic noodles, and the sriracha fish tacos. We had ordered the Shanghai lemonade as well, which tasted pretty good, but learned afterwards that refills were not included. The crispy honey chicken came with vegetables and a side of rice. Unfortunately, there was an abundance of breading on a savory and sweet glazed chicken. The lobster garlic noodles tasted OK, but was quite fishy. There were a decent amount of lobster chunks in the dish, but they were quite rubbery, and I was expecting more garlic. The sriracha fish tacos tasted delicious and each bite was fulfilling. The slaw, sauce, and fish went perfectly together in the tortilla.

Overall, Yak & Yeti produces decent food, but prices are quite high for what you get. The sriracha fish tacos were worth every penny even at $19, but the lobster garlic noodles were a rip off at $31. Service was decent, but it would have been nice if the server checked on us more frequently at the end of the meal. We were given the choice of earning Landry’s Select club points, or utilizing a AP/DVC discount, so we opted for the discount since the meal was so expensive. If you are looking for some Asian food and don’t feel like leaving the park, then you will find something you like here, but don’t keep your hopes up on value and taste.

Boma – Flavors of Africa – Orlando FL

2901 Osceola Pkwy

Orlando, FL 32830

Rating: ★★★★☆

Located inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House, Boma serves up African-inspired dishes in a buffet format. Even though we didn’t plan out this meal, we were able to score some late evening reservations on the same day. After checking in at the hostess desk, we were quickly seated inside the restaurant. After only waiting a minute or two, our server came by to tell us about the food stations and take our drink order. Non-alcoholic drinks were included in the buffet prices, so I opted for their signature juice mix, which tasted delicious.

On the visit to the food stations, we tried many different items such as nut-crusted salmon, mashed potatoes, tri-tip, pork ribs, chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, pasta, kokonut rice, basmati rice, and sausage stew. In terms of a buffet variety, there seemed to be something for everyone. Certain items like the salmon tasted much better when they brought out a fresh tray as it was quite juicy instead of dry. The tri-tip was also very tender and I revisited that station multiple times. After you hit the few good stations, you do feel like there could have been more variety, but they did do well for the food they have. Other than the salmon and tri-tip, the highlight of the buffet would have to be the zebra domes in the dessert area. Better than the mini-cupcakes, tarts, brownies, cookies, and mini-cakes, the zebra domes tasted delicious with its mousse inside and chocolate shell outside on a cake base. If you go to Boma, you must eat a minimum of 6 zebra domes before leaving.

Overall, Boma serves up a decent Disney buffet with African flavors. Even with its few highlights, Boma excels in quality and irresistible zebra domes. If you only want zebra domes, you can buy them at the Mara quick service restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but you might as well eat as much as you can at the buffet. At $43 per adult for dinner, this is no cheap meal, but you get what you pay for at this Disney dining destination.

Satu’li Canteen – Orlando FL

2901 Osceola Pkwy Suite E

Orlando, FL 32830

Rating: ★★★½☆

Located inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, Satu’li Canteen is situated in Pandora as a quick service restaurant. We were actually able to place our order on the phone app and schedule when we would pick it up. This saved us time by not having to stand in the long line. When we arrived at the restaurant, we checked in and waited at the mobile pick up area. Within 5 minutes, we were called to pick up the order.

Today, we decided to order the slow-roasted sliced grilled beef bowl with rice and white sauce, sustainable fish bowl with potato hash and white sauce, and cheeseburger steamed pods. The slow-roasted sliced grilled beef bowl with rice was a welcome sight since we have not eaten rice in a while. Although the beef was tender, there was not a lot of flavor in the dish, even with the sauce. The sustainable fish bowl was quite tasty with the lightly-breaded fish over the properly prepared hash. In both dishes, there were some juice pod toppings that exploded in your mouth, which was quite interesting. The cheeseburger pods really had no flavor at all and barely had any cheeseburger flavor. The chips that came with the pods were quite tasty though.

Overall, the reasonably priced food at Satu’li Canteen was only slightly better than mediocre. There were some highlights with the sustainable fish bowl, but they fell short with the pods and the beef bowl. If you are spending some time in Animal Kingdom and want some quick convenient food, I would still suggest Satu’li Canteen, especially if you are willing to utilize the mobile ordering system using the Disneyworld app.
