New Hong Kong Wok

5019 Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95822

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

The food is decent, but service is HORRIBLE! When I go to a Chinese restaurant, I don’t usually expect much for service, but I have standards. First, an available table was not provided even though an open table was available in the back. Second, the manager guy seemed to focus more about what was on TV instead of the customers. Also, the prices were quite high considering the lack of service.

Today we ordered the soup of the day, cooked meats platter, pork chops with honey sauce, braised cod clay pot, cod filet over greens, BBQ pork pan fried noodles, honey walnut shrimp, and mushroom beef. The cooked meats platter included fatty roast pork and queen;s chicken. The roast pork was tasty. The pork chops with honey sauce was overly salty and lacked much honey flavor. The braised cod clay pot was OK, but there was not much flavor at all in the dish. The cod filet over greens was delicious and light. The BBQ pork pan fried noodles were a disappointment because the BBQ pork seemed really old and hard. The noodles themselves were tasty though. The honey walnut shrimp was really good, but portion size was lacking. The mushroom beef was tasty, but again on the salty side.

Overall, the food was disappointing and the service lacking. The worst offender had to be the male manager because he seemed so stuck up he did not know how to take care of customers. I ended up waving the rice container rice spoon in order to get his attention, but he did not seem happy to come over, still focused on the TV. I do NOT recommend coming here unless its a last resort.

Giovanni’s Pizza

5924 South Land Park Drive

Sacramento, CA 95822

Rating: ★★★☆☆

I have always wanted to try Giovanni’s pizza because I have heard of it since high school. I finally get a chance to visit after scoring an offer from Amazon.com local deals. Upon entering the large dining hall, we found the ordering area in the right rear of the restaurant.

Today we ordered the Little Italy with meatballs and ricotta cheese. Looking at the pricing, I did find Giovanni’s to be on the steep side. After around 20 minutes of waiting, the pizza arrived at the table and paper plates were provided. The pizza was very fresh out of the oven. All of the ricotta cheese was nicely melted. I do wish that there would have been more meatballs though. The size of the medium pizza was not too pleasing, but it was perfect for two people. The taste was quite good, but no fireworks went off.

Overall, if you want to some good New York style pizza, Giovanni’s may be a good contender, but I would suggest Uncle Vito’s or even Pizza Hut over Giovanni’s.

Joy Luck Garden – Part 2

4251 Truxel Rd
Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★★☆

The most memorable part of this meal was the amazing service. We were seated immediately, water and tea was provided, and menus were distributed. All of the workers were candid and upbeat with smiles. Since our last visit involved ordering pho noodle soup, we decided to try rice dishes instead.

Today we ordered Tomato Beef over rice and Charbroiled Pork with Shrimp. The tomato beef was delicious! There was great flavor and just the right amount of beef and rice. The Charbroiled Pork with Shrimp was a better value than from Saigon. The flavor of the shrimp and pork was also delicious.

Overall, Joy Luck Garden has succeeded in serving delicious food at a convenient location. If you are in the Natomas area, give Joy Luck Garden a try!

Drewski’s Hot Rod

Location: Varies

Rating: ★★★★☆

After scoring a deal on Sacramento Perks, we finally tracked down the location of Drewski’s. Today, the truck was parked outside Red Lion Hotel in Arden. The Sac Perks deal consisted of two sandwiches and two drinks for $9.50. I am not sure how often these deals pop up, but if they do, you should definitely hop on the deal. The best way to locate Drewski’s is through Facebook or Twitter.

Today we ordered a Hemi with no onions, a Mustang, and the famous Tots. The Hemi was very interesting because one of the ingredients was mac and cheese. The seasoned pulled pork was very flavorful. The bread was a bit greasy, but was about what I expected. Overall, the Hemi is a keeper. The Mustang definitely has an Asian inspired taste. I found the meat to be a bit salty and over-seasoned, but the overall taste went together well. I did not see much of the other ingredients in the sandwich though. The tots were very flavorful, blasting with flavors of rosemary and garlic. The flavor was almost too much to bear.

Overall, Drewski’s comes through with the promise of extraordinary sandwiches. I did find the price of sandwiches to be a bit steep for the quantity of food received, but the levels of flavor present really coincides with the price. If you can track down the truck, give it a shot.

Classic Burgers

3408 Northgate Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95834

Rating: ★★★½☆

When it comes to Classic Burgers, I tend to order Chicken Teriyaki. Sometimes, I order Spicy Chicken instead. I know Classic Burgers has great burgers, but I come for the rice. The owners of this place are really nice and friendly. The food comes cooked fresh and neat. The dish came with a side of teriyaki sauce. I poured some of the sauce over the rice, but I found that the sauce was a bit overpowering and salty. Overall, the chicken was lean and tender. The rice was cooked correctly. If you want to order rice from a burger joint, this is the place to go!
