Located in a moderately busy shopping center in Elk Grove, Sizzling Fresh Mongolian BBQ serves up all-you-can-eat dinners for $10. Plenty of parking is available, and we entered to a large dining area with plenty of seating. You pay the cashier as you enter and can opt to pay for a soda cup of receive a complementary water cup. The cups were given to us to fill on our own. At this establishment, you grab a bowl, fill it with meats, vegetables, and noodles. Then, you add their various sauce and water mixtures to the bowl. Once you have everything in the bowl without spilling over, you provide the bowl to the chef to cook the bowl of food on the large circular grill.
On my trips, I opted for lots of beef, lots of noodles, broccoli, and spinach. I also added garlic and their house sauce mixture. The chefs quickly cooked the bowl right in front of you as you watch. As you are waiting, you will notice a tip jar on the side if you decide to contribute. While waiting, I also utilized the self-service rice cooker for some not so fresh fried rice. There are also some not so fresh fried wonton wrappers and sweet & sour sauce available, but they tasted very plain. The rice did not have a lot of flavor and ended up being plain as well. The noodles tasted delicious and fulfilling with each bite. The meat tasted great, but was not very tender. I ended up going back for one refill with similar items.
Overall, Sizzling Fresh Mongolian BBQ does in fact serve up some sizzling fresh food at reasonable prices. There is a good variety of ingredients available, but the meat does not seem to be that great. Also, while eating, we did notice that the staff provided better service to non-Asians because the servers actually got the drinks for the customers. Mongolian BBQ continues to be a reasonable dinner option because of its value and ability to make you full. If you never tried Mongolian BBQ before, you should definitely give this place a shot.
